TAUNTON Deane Blades fencing group is celebrating after one of its newest members has been ranked near the top of his age group nationally, despite the fact he has only been fencing for six months.

Trull School pupil Tommy Whyborn qualified in the county championships at Millfield in February and has crowned his continuing success by coming fifth in the under 10 age group in the British Youth Championships. He trains every Wednesday at the club, which is based at King's Hall School gym in Kingston Road under the careful eye of coach Nat Lewis.

The club caters for beginners up to advanced fencers at their two sessions from ages 8 - 80 and provides all equipment for the sport.

Sessions are £5 per week and beginners courses are regular. Call Louise on 07989 109707 for further details.
