TAUNTON residents are being warned against taking a legal high called 'Spice' after reports that people are falling ill after taking the drug.

Avon and Somerset Police tweeted earlier today urging residents not to take the drug as it could be a risk to their health.

'Spice' is a synthetic cannobanoid, a chemical drug which has been developed to act like the main psychoactive chemical in cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which acts on cannabinoid receptors in the brain.

The drug has attracted national attention in the last few weeks after the Manchester Evening News published pictures and videos of homeless people in a 'frozen' state after taking the drug.

It is believed the legal high is a mix of shredded herbs with a chemical sprayed over them.
