PUPILS and staff ditched the classroom for a day and went outdoors at Trull Primary School last Thursday.

It was all part of Outdoor Classroom Day, which celebrates and inspires outdoor learning and play.

A school spokesman said: "Why? Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature.

"Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood.

"This national day proved a wonderful opportunity to introduce our new outdoor education area to the children.

"The children took part in a number of activities which had cross-curricular links.

"The area, which previously formed part of the village playing field has been transformed thanks to the work of the Trull School Fundraisers."
