PRIORSWOOD Primary School as been rated as 'inadequate' in its most recent Ofsted inspection.

Published today (Tuesday, May 23) the damning report found pupils had been 'underachieving significantly for some time'.

Priorswood Primary had previously been rated as 'Requires Improvement' in 2015 but inspectors found standards had dropped further since the previous report - however they did say steps were being taken in the right direction.

The report states: "Pupils’ achievement is inadequate. Due to weaknesses in the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, pupils have underachieved significantly over time.

"In reading and writing, pupils are working at standards below those expected for their age. The better progress that pupils are now making is insufficient to help them address historic underachievement."

The report also found that the most able students were not being challenged enough and that absence rates were still too high.

However the report also stated that the local governing body, senior leaders and the multi-academy trust have 'begun to implement the improvements required to ensure that pupils make faster progress'.

"The current leadership team has had an immediate impact on improving pupils’ behaviour and the quality of the learning environment," it says in the report, and adds that "the quality of teaching has improved since the start of the academic year."

Chris Hillard, interim director for trust strategy and delivery for the Collaborative Academies Trust - which sponsors Priorswood Primary - said: “Inspectors said we are doing the right things and now have the right team in place.

"The full impact of our recent work will be revealed over time. The school’s senior leadership team has already commenced work on the action points listed by Ofsted and looks forward to demonstrating the difference it has made when the inspectors return."
