A SUSPECTED deliberate fire at a former school building in Taunton is not being investigated by police.

Firefighters and police officers were called to the old St Augustine Canterbury School just off Lyngford Road yesterday afternoon (May 24) at 12.17pm to reports of a fire.

The site is currently occupied by travellers.

A small amount of rubbish was on fire next to the building.

The fire also caused damage to the exterior of an unoccupied building.

Firefighters called police as it was believed that the fire had been started deliberately, however Avon and Somerset Police confirmed it was not investigating the matter.

A spokesman for the force said: "We were called to reports of a fire but we can confirm that we are not treating as suspicious or as arson."

One fire engine was originally sent to the fire, but on arrival a second was also requested.

A popular car boot site held at the site on a Friday, has also been moved.

Paul's Promotions said the car boot would now be at Taunton Rugby Club starts at 4.30pm for sellers and 5pm for buyers, with the sellers' fee reduced to £4 to compensate for any inconvenience.
