I RECENTLY visited Porlock as a tourist and parked in Doverhay Car Park.
Both my husband and I are disabled and are 89 and 80 years of age respectfully.
I displayed my disablement badge and because no spaces for the disabled were free, I parked in another space.
When I came back in just over an hour I had a parking notice attached to my windscreen.
I wrote to Somerset County Council to object stating mitigating circumstances but they have been rejected. In fact they have stated that I WAS in a disablement bay and NOT displaying my badge!
This information was supplied by the car park attendant, I assume, and is totally untrue!
I would like to point out to your readers that only in April 2016 the disabled were liable for parking charges. Disabled parking is still free here in Wales.
So, I am now faced with a £25 fee if paid within 14 days. Failure to do so - and I must say a day in court is tempting - will put me at risk of a criminal record!
As a law-abiding citizen who has devoted my working life to the nursing profession for some 40 years, I certainly do not want to have a criminal record. However, because of the council’s threatening behaviour I have no option but to pay.
