MORE than 260 people crowded into the Hinkley C recruitment event in Minehead with job-seekers queuing up to find out more.

The event was held to highlight potential opportunities from the Hinkley Point C new nuclear power station.

West Somerset Council employment and skills staff are working together to ensure local communities are in a good position to benefit from jobs arising from Hinkley Point C and said the Minehead event proved ‘a huge success’.

Representatives from Hinkley Point C Jobs Service, G4S Security and Facilities Team, Somerset Larder, Jobcentre Plus and Somerset Passenger Solutions (SPS) were present and were inundated with enquiries.

One college leaver who attended the event said he was keen to apply for a security role.

“It can be a bit daunting to think of applying to such a big company but the process was really easy and I am so glad that I came along. There was lots of information – and now I am going to go for it!”

Cllr Andrew Hadley, West Somerset Council’s lead member for economic growth, said: “The council is delighted to be able to support the recruitment initiative.

“The event was buzzing with people ready to offer advice to all those who came through the doors.”
