DO you remember the days when we used to make sure we were near a radio as the new chart was unveiled?

For me it was tuning in at 12.45 on a Tuesday lunchtime, for others it was Sunday afternoons.

Regardless of which you listened it was a part of our weekly routine and something that could not be missed.

That was part of the thinking behind me starting the Vinyl Countdown show, to try and remind ourselves of the days when charts mattered. In recent times the charts have felt less important and have almost become irrelevant. However, I have now come across a report that the rules for the singles chart are being changed in the next few weeks.

The reason for the change is to prevent the situation that arose a few weeks back where Ed Sheeran had sixteen of the Top 20 songs even though twelve of them weren’t officially singles.

The wording that the charts company are using state that the changes are 'a bid to encourage diversity and new artists' to the chart. We shall see how that pans out.

In other music news, watch out for our very own Jordan Hill. Later this month Jordan is performing a gigathon. 20 venues, 20 shows, 1 day. It’s all raising money and awareness for St Margaret's Hospice.

In addition, Jordan has teamed up with Liam Duggan to write and record a new song “The Dedication Song”. I had the honour of having the first play of the song on my show last week, it’s a really catchy song and will be available at Jordan’s gigs. Please support him if you can.
