A SUPERFAN of the popular TV series ‘The Walking Dead’ from Minehead has received support from dozens of fellow fans after becoming unwell.

A JustGiving crowdfunding page was set up for 15-year-old Evie Pike by a fellow fan, Lindsey Browning, after she learnt that Evie was too unwell to attend the Walking Dead ‘Walker Stalker’ Convention in March earlier this year.

Evie Pike posted online that she was feeling wiped out thanks to her cancer treatment. After making a connection on Facebook, Lindsey set up a crowdfunding page to pay for tickets for Evie to go to 2018’s convention.

Evie, who attends West Somerset College, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January this year. After receiving tickets to the convention as a Christmas present she was devastated that her condition meant she couldn’t go.

Miss Browning, 31, from Derby, posted about Evie in a Walking Dead Facebook fan group a week ago. The post quickly gained 150 likes and dozens of messages of support and pledges to donate. One fan even donated 2 VIP tickets to next year’s convention.

Miss Browning said: “It’s amazing how the fans are coming together to support Evie. The money raised on Just Giving will be extremely useful for Evie and her family at this difficult time.”

She continued: “We are here to support Evie – or as we call her the ‘Lil Ass Kicker’ – as she’s going to kick cancer’s butt!”

Lindsey hopes that the funds raised will be enough to pay for travel expenses and some photo-ops with stars of the TV show as Evie recovers from cancer.

The Minehead teenager has been in and out of hospital all year, receiving intensive chemotherapy, and starts a course of radiotherapy in July.

Evie is a talented musician, and plays the guitar, piano and drums. She was also a keen rugby player for the Minehead Barbarians until she became unwell.

Sadly Evie’s father died from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma four years ago, so the family know how difficult the treatment is. Evie has the support of her mum and three siblings, sisters Esmee, 14, and Jessica, 24, and brother Daniel, 20.

Mum Sam Pike said: “She’s just been so amazingly strong, and I’m so proud of her. Friends and family have been so supportive, and it’s lovely to have fans of the show that she loves so much looking out for her.”
