THE contents of a Wellington bookshop are among thousands of books up for auction later this month.

The two-day sale is being conducted by auctioneers Charterhouse on Thursday and Friday, July 27 and 28.

Auctioneer Richard Bromell said: "There are thousands and thousands of books ancient and modern.

“It was a lifetime’s accumulation of books, some of which were bought from our auctions 10 to 15 years ago as the boxes still have our old lot numbers on them.”

The bookshop was known to many bookworms over the years.

Although the main selling area was on the ground floor, books were also stored on the two floors above which made emptying the shop interesting for the Charterhouse crew in the warm summer weather.

In among the 1000s of volumes, there are books of West Country interest, history, natural history, children’s, travel and architecture.

However, one subject which shines out is the large selection of fine art and antique reference books.

There are many Antique Collectors’ Club books along with a huge selection of the very popular Taschen volumes.

With the majority of books being sold at Charterhouse in an as new condition or in plastic wrappers, it represents an amazing opportunity for bidders to buy some fabulous books at a fraction of their retail cost.

All the lots from the bookshop are being offered for sale at auction without reserve.

Viewing for the Charterhouse two day auction of books, pictures, antiques and interiors with a special selection of automobilia, is on Wednesday, July 26 from 10am to 6pm and Thursday, July 27, from 9am.
