ON the weekend of July 7 to 9, members of my family, some friends and I were in the foyer of Sainsbury's supermarket at Hankridge Farm.

We were there to raise awareness of Myeloma - cancer of the bone marrow - and to raise funds for Myeloma UK, the national charity which supports myeloma sufferers and their families.

Myeloma UK also funds research into new treatments and hopefully, one day will help to find a cure.

During these three days we met and spoke to many people who were affected by myeloma, either directly themselves or who had family members or friends who had this, as yet, incurable cancer.

Myeloma is a treatable cancer and my family and I will forever be grateful to Dr S Bolam and his team at Musgrove for the treatment my wife received.

I wish to thank Sainsbury's for the loan of their foyer. Thank you also to the many people who came and talked to us.

Also, we should like to thank the hundreds of people who contributed to the total of over £480, whether it was a few coins or greater amounts.

We make no deductions for expenses - every penny that was collected over the three days was given to Myeloma UK.

Thank you to all concerned.
