PARK and Ride services on Saturdays are set to be axed in the latest batch of council savings.
Somerset County Council announced that the bus service will be cut as part of its £18m savings bid.
There is no confirmed date when the Saturday service will stop, only that it will be some time in autumn.
Cllr Fothergill said: “We cannot continue running many of our services as we do now. We cannot afford it. We have lost more than £100m in revenue over the past few years. We have to change. We have to adapt. We have to live within our means”.
Stopping the service is set to save the council £50,000.
Currently the Saturday service runs every 15 minutes from 7.30am with last departures from the town centre at 6.12pm to Silk Mills and 6.15pm to Gateway.
The service connections two ends of the town from Silk Mills through to the Motorway Junction 25.
