AN alleged assault in one of Taunton's major artery roads has caused traffic chaos this afternoon (Friday).
Police were called after reports of an assault in East Reach at 3.23pm, and ambulance crews have rushed one person to hospital for treatment.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said a man in his 50s was arrested.
Officers have been directing traffic on the busy road, where roadworks and diversions in operation this week have caused further disruption to motorists.
An ambulance was also called to the scene this afternoon.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 3.21pm to reports of an incident in East Street.
"A double-crewed ambulance was sent to the scene and a person has been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital."
The extent of the person's injuries are currently not known.
