DENNIS and Rosemary Buckingham's golden wedding celebrations raised £635 for Taunton-based charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE).

Other donations to the County Gazette-backed SURE, which equips the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, included £100 from one of the winners at a club evening at the Wells City Bridge Club.

There was also £172.94 from the Bampton Handbell Ringers - half of the club's remaining bank account after it decided to disband.

Collections of 5p coins were £1.85 from Mrs Osborne, of Runnington; £30 from Sarah's Bingo Ladies, Bridgwater; £17.20 from Mr and Mrs Hewlett's three great nieces' pocket money as a thank you for treatment given to their uncle; and £4 from Mrs C. Cattle, of Burrowbridge.

Collection pots totalled £9.21 at Trull Stores; £47.02 in Tesco Express, Comeytrowe; £24.61 from the Co-op, Monkton Heathfield.

From Gordon and Liz Davies there was £15 in memory of Susan Cotterall, while £236.01 left at the Beacon Centre was mostly in 5ps.

This week's total of £1,292.84 means £705,989.83 has been raised since SURE linked up with the County Gazette.
