A NESTING box for a pair of peregrine falcons has been installed on top of a church tower.

After the finishing touches have been put to it - all that remains now is for the birds to find it.

A total of £7,000 is being spent on the nestbox and a webcam to capture the birds and their young next spring.

The adults spent several weeks at St Mary Magdalene Church, Taunton, this summer.

Michael Leigh-Mallory, Taunton Peregrine Project manager, said the gravel nestbox will offer them a suitable place to nest.

He said: "The nestbox offers some protection from the elements and offers them a gravel substrate to form a scrape.

"We will monitor the peregrines during the next few months and fingers crossed they will find the box quickly."

Taunton Deane Borough Council is paying half the final bill, while Somerset Ornithological Society has also made a donation.

The Taunton Peregrine Project has now launched a Just Giving crowdfunding initiative to raise the remaining £2,500.
