THERE is an old Yiddish proverb which says, “What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.”

Then prepare to get ready for a warm shower of jokes or a hot long relaxing dip in a seas of observations from comedian Andrew Lawrence when he appears at Bridgwater Arts Centre this Friday, September 15.

The comic is according to the blurb surrounding his show says: "Without question the most subversive voice in UK comedy right now presents an all new, riotously funny set of jokes, poking fun at Liberal pretensions, PC hysteria and his own awful parenting skills.

"The Happy Accident Tour is a gag packed stand-up show about coming to terms with fatherhood."

Talking about being a comic, Andrew said: "First and foremost it has been a great to be a comedian since 2003.

"Being able to to on stage and make people laugh for a living is great.

"When you tell an audience a joke and you get a laugh it can be addictive.

"For me it is a very rewarding job and I am very grateful to have the opportunity to step on stage and make people laugh.

"I like to come up with material which makes me laugh and I hope other people will laugh as well.

"I would say I have a dark sense of humour and in some ways I tread that line between people laughing and causing offence.

"Comedians do build up a relationship trust with their audience and you have to be respectful of that as a professional comedian.

"With that trust you do get a bit of leeway.

"I knew when I was very young I wanted to be a comedian as I got pleasure from being able to make people laugh.

"You get a sense of what is good and what is not.

"I think it is like anything if you have a passion for it you do it.

"I was lucky I became a comedian at the boom for stand up."

He explained he broke through into the business when there was boom in stand up comics but felt it was a lot harder today for new talent to get onto the circuit.

Andrew said: "At the moment it is difficult to get into being a stand up comedian.

"I started when there was a boom in stand up comedians but now comedy clubs are closing and there is less opportunities to appear on television.

"I was glad to get my opportunity and build my own following.

"I do have a dark sense of humour.

"This tour is called Happy Accident and a lot of the jokes are about my two year old daughter hence the title of the show Happy Accident.

"I do a lot of short jokes and a number of observations."
