A SINGLE mum says she and her children are "living in fear" after a suspected arson attack on her car.

The fire started on the Wintersfield estate at around 8.39pm on Sunday, September 10.

The silver Suzuki Swift was at the back of her house at the time of the fire.

Sammi Oaten posted the ordeal on Facebook in order to find the person responsible.

Somerset County Gazette:

She said the fire has had a terrible affect on her and her family, as her seven-year-old son is too scared to sleep alone.

"We are certain this was an intentional attack," She said.

"Myself and my kids were terrified and my seven-year-old son is still too scared to sleep alone at night. This has had a terrible affect on all of us.

"We are desperate to find the person responsible for this, I am a single mother living in fear for my children's safety.

"This person might think it's all fun and games but I can assure you it is not.

"This is a very serious crime which hasn't just affected my family, the fire also caused damage to a neighbouring house who also had children inside.

"If any of you out there can help in any way to catch this criminal that did this to a young family we would be so grateful."

Avon and Somerset Police is now investigating and is appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman said: "Police are investigating after a car was destroyed by fire in Taunton on Sunday night, 10 September.

"Officers were called to Wintersfield at about 8.45pm by the fire and rescue service.

"We’re keen to speak to anyone who saw how the fire started."

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews were called to extinguish the fire using two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet.

The car was 50 per cent damaged by fire and 100 per cent damaged by smoke.
