PAWEL Augustynik has declared he is feeling “as fit as ever” going into his third professional bout next month.

Taunton’s only professional boxer fights at Dolman Hall at Bristol’s Ashton Gate Stadium on October 6, and Augustynik is protecting an unbeaten record in the light heavyweight category.

Looking ahead to the fight, he said: “I’m feeling very confident. I’m in good shape and am as fit as I’ve ever been, so I’m going for the win.

“I train twice a day – I travel to Bristol for the first half of the week and sleep in the gym for two nights.

“Then it’s back to Taunton, where I work with David Entwhistle on technique and Tom Auton from Activate Fitness on strength and conditioning.”

Augustynik, 22, has big ambitions and is setting his sights on national titles in the years to come.

“I need a few more fights to gain experience but British champion is the least I’m aiming for - it will take time, but I’ve got time on my side,” he said.

Augustynik’s impressive boxing CV to date is evidence that his ambitions are achievable, as he explains when asked how he got into boxing.

“I was 13 when I started with Dennis Cornell at Taunton ABC,” he said.

“I was a naughty boy in school and was always a bit hyper. I started boxing, really liked it and got on well with it – I won 16 of my first 18 fights and was national champion by the age of 15.

“A year later I was GB champion, and I have also won golds at tournaments in Germany and Poland.”

Now under the management of Sanigar Events, big things are expected of the first professional boxer to come out of Taunton since Dale Nixon and Courtney Thomas in the mid-2000s.
