FIONA Hawker is like a superhero, by day she cooks up tasty food while working as a chef but at night she is serving up savvy ways to save you money.

This 30-year-old part time blogger from Bridgwater has been savvy enough to cut her and her 25-year-old husband Pete’s shopping bill from £200 per month to £50 a month.

The savings have allowed the couple to spend their thrifty savings on holidays or treats rather than see their shopping bill sky rocket at the till.

On her website savvyinsomerset.com she states: “My journey into the world of extreme money saving started when my partner and I decided to buy our first house together.

Somerset County Gazette:

“We decided to aim for around a 35% deposit despite being on relatively low incomes. It took five years, but we did it. “ The couple managed to save £50,000 for the deposit to get their home.

For this ‘Queen of Savings’, there is compulsion to get the best deal whether she is shopping in the supermarket or online.

Fiona said: “I started my blog as I wanted to help other people save money.

"I work as a chef at the Knowle Inn in Bawdrip near Bridgwater during the day and I blog in my spare time.

“People can always find ways of saving money and I am passionate about it.

"But at the end of the day, the sacrifices we make gives us a chance to spend the money we save by going on holiday.

Somerset County Gazette:

"There are a number of apps you can download or lots of Facebook pages where you can money saving coupons.”

Fiona’s main tip to save the cash is to plan; plan what you are going to spend and plan what you are going to eat.

She fixes a budget of £50 per month for her and her husband and even though it might get close at end she always sticks to it.

She said: “I always go shopping at 9pm this when a lot of supermarkets have items reduced or selling things which are near the expiry date such as bread, vegetables or meat.

Somerset County Gazette:

“I have six apps on my phone which I check before I go shopping so I know what is on offer and I know which is the best supermarkets to buy what I want.

Fiona’s long time dreams is to become a full time blogger.
