STUDENTS at The King Alfred School in Highbridge can no longer consume energy drinks on the school site due to a ban.

In their monthly newsletter, the school informed parents that after reviewing research into the links between energy drinks and short and longterm health issues, they would be confiscating and disposing of any energy drinks students have on the site.

Denise Hurr, headteacher at The King Alfred School, said: “Energy drinks have been linked to negative impacts on well-being and educational outcomes.

“Many such drinks contain far more than the recommended daily intake of sugar and caffeine, affecting concentration and mood.

“Parents and staff have been supportive of the change, with many parents suggesting that they are surprised such guidance hasn’t been introduced county-wide.”
