THE very first set to be announced on the forthcoming official Monopoly game for Taunton is revealed today (Tuesday).

It is a set of parks – and appears in the modestly priced section of the game.

Goodland Gardens, Hestercombe Gardens and Vivary Park are confirmed as the latest landmarks to feature on the brand new Monopoly edition for the town.

So far only a handful of landmarks have previously been announced as making it onto the new edition, including the Cooper Associates County Ground and charities.

Today’s announcement is particularly good news for Goodland Gardens, which grabs the best of the three light blue spaces, which are Angel Islington, Euston Road and Pentonville Road from the game’s classic London original.

That’s because it will be landing on the very fashionable Angel Islington location from the London Monopoly game’s classic original.

The full line-up of the board will be revealed on Thursday, October 19, when the game hits shop shelves.

The Angel, Islington is considered among the highest ranking spaces in terms of cachet, say the makers of the new board, Winning Moves UK, under official license from Hasbro.

In real life the Angel Islington is “the height of trendiness”, says Jake Houghton, Winning Moves custom games executive.

He added: "It’s the very chic-est Monopoly space of the 30 plus landmarks which will be handed over to Taunton favourites when the game is unveiled in October.”

Other themed sets will span the world of tourism, heritage, arts, sports, entertainment, travel and the media.

Earlier this year public was invited to suggest “everything Taunton” to star in the unique game over a two-month long consultation period.

Today the game’s developers reveal that “very many of the great” suggestions are being incorporated in the edition.

When the original London game was conceived in the 1930s, the Angel Islington was positioned in an extremely modest part of the London Monopoly board.

But now, since then, its cachet has soared.

Celebs who have flocked there to live include Hollywood A Lister Colin Firth and Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson also live and dine out there.

Its art galleries boast among the best in the UK and its eateries are among the trendiest in the world.

Alongside Mayfair it is considered “the hottest ticket in town”, claims Mr Houghton.

He said: “We feel a very big coup for Goodland Gardens to land on Angel Islington, which is one of the high cachet spaces.

“But it is Vivary Park which will be heading up the set.

"It will land on the highest ranking of this set of three in terms of property price.

"We felt that was right because it very nearly landed on Mayfair - it secured the second most votes in a public poll, we can reveal, held earlier in the year.”

Mr Houghton added: “The suggestions from the Taunton public were great.

"Very many have been incorporated in the game. A very big thank you everyone who voted and made a suggestion."

Mr Houghton went on to say that the reaction to the game has been “way beyond our expectations”.
