TAUNTON Deane MP Rebecca Pow's claim that Labour MPs' constituencies may not have any soil was greeted with derision on social media.

Ms Pow was chosen to speak on the main stage at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester in the warm up slot before Prime Minister Theresa May.

Ms Pow said she was delighted that soil is now "getting the attention it needs".

She added: "This is not on Labour’s agenda.

“In fact, I am not sure they have any constituencies with soil in them.”

She added: “It’s on this Government’s agenda now, following an inquiry into soil and the first ever debate in Parliament on soil. Yes that’s how exciting it gets.”

According to the Huffington Post, a Tory activist in the hall said: "Well, that was a bit off the wall."
