WORK has started today (Friday, October 13) on the demolition of a 1960s tower block in the centre of Taunton.
It will take a number of weeks to totally demolish Quantock House, in Paul Street, according to supervisor Robin Sams, of contractor L. A. Moore, of Wells.
The building previously housed Government departments the Valuation Office and Defra before falling vacant several years ago.
Once the building has come down, work will start in the New Year on a 60-bed care home and 61 extra care units for the Bournemouth-based Quantum Group.
Robin Sams.
