TAUNTON Town defender Owen Irish is reported to be on his way out of the club, having spent nine seasons with the Peacocks and made more than 300 appearances.

Irish joined in 2008 from Yeovil Town and has remained at the club ever since, returning from a broken leg in 2010 that kept him out of action for a year.

The centre-back was in exceptional form last season, his prodigious leap making him a great threat at set-pieces and helping him score 15 goals.

But having agreed to remain at the Viridor Stadium for a 10th year in the summer, Irish has been in and out of the team this season, having felt the effects of a toe injury picked up at the end of the last campaign.

Manager Leigh Robinson has also favoured playing a back three of Ben Adelsbury, Brett Trowbridge and Shane White, with Irish coming on as a substitute in the last two games.

Irish's brother Lloyd has had two spells with the Peacocks, the second running from 2014, from which point he has been an ever-present as goalkeeper.

With Owen's departure, Town are also without a back-up to Lloyd, with both brothers capable of playing in goal.
