A BUSY road in Taunton has reopened after being shut for nearly 24 hours after a gas leak.

Wales and West Utilities closed Trull Road yesterday evening (Novemeber 8) after reports of a leak.

The road was closed causing traffic chaos across town as cars were diverted down Parkfield Road.

The road has now been reopened and the leak has been fixed.

Nick Sealy, Wales & West Utilities Gas emergency services manager for Taunton, said: “We were alerted to reports of a smell of gas in the Trull Road area of Taunton yesterday afternoon (November 8) and immediately sent an engineer to the scene.

"On arrival, we found a leak on a gas pipe running beneath Trull road, and began work to make a repair.

“In agreement with Somerset Council, and so that road users, pedestrians and our colleagues were kept safe while we work, we closed Trull Road at its junction with Compass Hill.

"After working around the clock we have now made a full repair and have re-opened Trull Road.

“This was a very complex job and we would like to thank the local people for their patience and understanding while we carried out this essential work."
