A PEDESTRIAN has been seriously injured and a car left on its roof following a crash on the A3259 last night (Thursday, Novmeber 24)

Police closed the road and urged motorists to avoid the A38 following the crash between Taunton and Walford Cross which happened shortly after 5pm.

The male pedestrian has been seriously injured and the driver and passenger in the car have been injured - their injuries are not believed to be serious.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We have closed the A38 while a detailed examination of the scene takes place.

"We're keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident. Call us on 101 quoting log 790.

"We understand that a large number of vehicles have been delayed by the closure and we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding while we deal with the incident."

A spokesman for the ambulance confirmed that two patients were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton by land ambulance, with the pedestrian airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
