AN online appeal to raise £5,000 has been launched to ensure a story of prejudice and discrimination comes to Taunton's Brewhouse Theatre.

The Somerset Anne Frank Awards (SAFA) wants to bring the Anne Frank and You exhibition to the town next autumn but needs £10,000 by the end of January to ensure it can go ahead.

Half of that sum has already come in, but organisers have now launched a justgiving fundraising appeal - to donate click here.

SAFA vice-chairman Jenny Harding said: "The exhibition will tell Anne Frank's story and relate it to prejudice and discrimination in the modern day, with a strong focus on the issues of identity and moral choice in the UK.

"It will be suitable for adults and children at an age of understanding world problems - we say around 10 plus. We will also be looking to work closely with Somerset schools and youth groups.

"Any contributions made at the event will go towards the exhibition itself, running workshops, inviting visiting speakers and training ambassadors for the exhibition.

"The exhibition will be a journey of self-exploration for visitors, with themes that Anne wrote about in her diary - this includes racial hatred, war and conflict and the value of democracy and freedom.

"This will al be presented in an up-to-date, contemporary fashion, along with filmed interviews with British teenagers discussing their views, concerns and hopes for the future.

"Finally, this exhibition will allow local companies and authorities to publicly demonstrate their commitment to building a social cohesive and responsible young community."
