A 53-year-old man believed to be drink-driving was arrested after failing to stop when a car crashed into a petrol station.

The incident happened on Sunday evening at the Esso garage on Longforth Road in Wellington.

The driver is said to have fled the scene after wrecking the front of a vehicle.

He was later located by Avon and Somerset Police officers.

The 53-year-old, who police believe was under the influence of alcohol, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink, and failing to stop after a road accident.

The force posted about the incident on its Twitter page.

The post said: "PSCO Henderson and Baker.

"Road traffic crash at Longforth Road Esso garage.

"Vehicle stopped, driver didn't.

"Driver left the scene, later located by officers."

The man has been released under investigation.
