A ROAD leading into Taunton was closed for more than six hours and buses were delayed after a crash in icy conditions. 

The B3227 was closed near to the Croford Hill junction after a crash that is believed to involve three vehicles at around 6.30 am this morning (January 19).

The road was reopened at around 1pm.

Buses to Kingsmead School were forced to halt due to the crash. 

Berry's Coaches posted on its Facebook page that some services have been delayed. 

Somerset County Gazette:

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: "The school buses have not been cancelled but they are waiting until the road is clear before picking up the children and making the journey to Kingsmead School.

"It is the buses coming from the East side (Taunton side) that have been affected.

"Parents and the school have been notified."

Buses of Somerset has confirmed that there will be changes to service 25 this morning. 

The bus, which normally runs between Taunton and Dulverton, serving Wiveliscombe, will stop at Bampton due to the ice on the roads. 

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue was called to the scene at around 6.30am this morning. 

On arrival, crews confirmed three cars were involved in the crash, but all people in vehicles were free and clear of the incident.  

Avon and Somerset Police assisted one casualty from the vehicle before the fire crews arrived.

Ambulance attended to provide medical assistance to the "walking wounded".

The vehicles and scene were made safe. 

Police officers have requested the attendance of Highways to salt the roads that were icy.
