IMMIGRATION Enforcement officials swooped on a Taunton restaurant where two Bangladeshi men had overstayed their visas.
The two men were interviewed following the raid on the Bay Leaf Indian restaurant, in East Reach, at around 6pm yesterday (Thursday).
The operation was carried out following intelligence passed on to the Immigration Enforcement, an opertional directorate within the Home Office responsible for enforcing immigration law.
A Home Office spokeswoman said a 62-year-old man was detained while steps are taken to remove him from the UK.
And a 42-year-old has been ordered to report to Immigration Enforcement on a regular basis while his case is progressed.
The spokeswoman added: "The business was served a referral notice in relation to two illegal workers found.
"The notice warns that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 will be imposed unless the employer can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.
"This means Bay Leaf faces a potential penalty of up to £40,000."
