A KITCHEN was completely damaged after an oven caught on fire.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue engines from Taunton were called to Pyrland Fields at around 5.30am this morning (February 16).

The resident of the property reported that the oven was on fire but that everyone was out of the property.

A spokesman said: "On arrival of the initial crew they confirmed smoke was issuing from the first floor property and set to work entering with two breathing apparatus wearers and a safety jet.

"At 5.54am crews had extinguished the fire and were using a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the property of smoke.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus wearers, one hose reel jet, one covering jet, positive pressure ventilation fan, small tools  and a triple extension ladder to access and extinguish the fire, which started accidentally.

"The kitchen sustained 50 per cent damage by fire and 100 per cent by smoke, with the remainder of the socially rented coach house suffering from light smoke damage.

"There were no casualties."
