THE Great British Spring Clean is soon to get started - and YOU can get involved.

Your County Gazette has teamed up with Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow to organise a community litter pick on Saturday, March 3.

Staff from the newspaper will join Ms Pow from 11.30am for the event, meeting at the bridge at Priory Bridge Road, Taunton, before making their way along the river - collecting litter as they go!

Ms Pow said: “We all have a vested interested in our town and of course, we want it to be as well presented as possible.

“This litter pick, organised by myself and the County Gazette, is a great opportunity for people of all ages to get out and do some gentle exercising whilst also helping to clear our town of unwanted litter.

“I look forward to seeing as many people as possible there on March 3.”

Somerset County Gazette:

County Gazette editor, Paul Jones, said the newspaper was keen to take part in the Great British Spring Clean following the newspaper’s Keep Taunton Tidy campaign, which was run last year in conjunction with Taunton Deane Borough Council.

“Litter is among the first topics to come up when I speak to people in Taunton,” Paul said.

“And we are all keen to see our county town presented in the best possible way to residents and visitors alike, so this is a chance for people to do their bit to help.

“We look forward to welcoming you on March 3 come rain or shine.”

And the council is also backing the litter pick, providing litter pickers and tabards for some of those taking part.

Cllr Patrick Berry, executive councillor for environmental services, said: “The council really values efforts like this and is happy to offer support with the loan of litter pickers and tabards.

“It’s wonderful to see prominent members of our community setting an example and I would encourage as many people as possible to follow their lead and take pride in our environment.”

The Great British Spring Clean runs across the weekend of March 2 to 4 and aims to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and beaches.

“We want to inspire 400,000 people to get outdoors, get active and help clear up the rubbish that lies around us,” said a spokesman.

“Join our growing army of #LitterHeroes who have had enough of other people’s litter and are willing to do something about it.

“Together we can make a difference and clean up the environment on our doorstep.”
