RESIDENTS in Somerset said their houses shook as an earthquake hit the county. 

People across Somerset, Devon, Wales and Cornwall said they felt the ground rumble and their homes shake just after 2.30pm today after it is believed an earthquake hit the county. 

The British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed a 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit 20km north east of Swansea.

The BGS said events of this magnitude only occur in the UK every two to three years.
