AN employee at Viridor has been remembered by colleagues at the Taunton-based company and the Rotary Club of Taunton with a £1,000 donation to a vital cancer service.

Th cash presented to the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Musgrove Park Hospital in memory of Tina Vickery, was generated through an ongoing fundraising partnership over the past five years.

It involves Viridor offering the club the use of its head office car park to raise funds when Somerset County Cricket Club play at the home on weekends. It has enabled the club to raise £15,000 for good causes since 2014.

Roger Priest, president of the Rotary Club of Taunton, said: "I think this is a wonderful demonstration of Viridor and the Rotary Club of Taunton working together for the benefit of the local community.

"It shows how a local business can deliver on social responsibility in a simple effective manner and I thank Viridor for their foresight and contribution to the community."

Rotarian Mike Hellings, former Viridor managing director, said: "It is very pleasing to see that Viridor still has an appetite to support local community interests, and this time remembers a long serving colleague."

Tina Vickery, who worked at Viridor for more than 15 years, was described by colleague Nick Wilson as "wonderful person with a great sense of humour who was liked by all".

He added: "Tina was always happy to help others. When I first joined the accounts payable team, Tina was always on hand to help and make me feel welcome - for that I’ll always be grateful. She will be greatly missed by everyone at Viridor."
