Getting outside is good for you and there’s plenty going on in and around Exmoor this Easter holiday.

Whether you like getting wet or getting your walking boots on, travelling by train or by boat, meeting the local ponies or hunting for seaside creatures, there’s something for all the family in Greater Exmoor.

  1. Visit the Lynton Railway at Woody Bay Station for some Easter Sunday Fun for all the family. Open from 10am on 1 April - no kidding - there’ll be baby animals, face painting and children’s entertainment. Free entry.   2. Get wet in Minehead. Channel Adventures are offering ‘Give it a Go’ sessions over the Easter Holidays. Try your hand at kayaking, SUP, and outdoor swimming with a qualified instructor. £15 per hour and they’ll even lend you a wetsuit. www.ChannelAdventure.co.uk
  3. Follow the new Spring Nature Trail around the glorious Heddon Valley and encourage your children to be explorers. This easy two-mile circular trail is a pushchair friendly route with clues, information and activities to keep little ones engaged along the way.   4. Join the Exmoor National Park Adventure Day at Haddon Hill near Wimbleball Lake on April 4 between 10am and 4pm. The Rangers will be organising family-friendly games and activities lasting all day, including bush-craft skills, soil printing and picture making and scavenger hunts and species identification.   5. Meet Peter Rabbit on Saturday, March 31 at Minehead Railway Station. He’ll be making personal appearances at regular intervals between 10am and 4pm after starring in his very own feature film (launched March 16). Entertainment on the day will include face painting, crafts and a woodland themed Easter egg hunt, as well as the opportunity to hop aboard the famous steam train. www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk
  6. See Exmoor from the Sea – its rocky shoreline and soaring cliffs provide a truly spectacular sight from out on the ocean and you’ll spot lots of wildlife too.   7. Need to walk off that Easter Egg-shaped spare tyre? The Exmoor Society are organising a free, three hour walk on Tuesday, April 10 to explore the open moors, deep wooded valleys and country lanes of the area, accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide.   9. See where your meat and fresh produce comes from on a Farm and Food Tour. Spend time with the farmers and meet their rare breed pigs, Dexter cattle, goats and alpacas.   11. Hunt for Fossils on Watchet beach. The spring tides unearth a potential treasure trove of delights and keen eyes and patient fingers regularly discover ammonites, belemnites and unusual shells. www.visit-watchet.co.uk
