FIREFIGHTERS were called to a property in Wiveliscombe following reports of a chimney fire.

One fire engine from Wiveliscombe went to the property at 6.19pm today (March 18) after a call from the occupant of the property saying they had a chimney fire involving their log burner.

When they arrived the crew removed the log burner to allow them access to the chimney, before using chimney gear to extinguish the fire from the hearth.

But at 7:57pm crews confirmed they were working to stop the fire from the chimney pot at roof level after experiencing difficulty tackling it solely from the hearth.

By 9.04pm they confirmed the fire was under control after they extinguished it from the hearth using chimney gear and from the roof level, using a ladder and hose reel jet.

They then checked for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera, before making the area safe and leaving duty of care with occupants.
