IT may be Easter but there seems to be no end to wintery weather causing disruption in Somerset.

In West Somerset, Porlock faced heavy snow yesterday (Friday, March 30) and firefighters and gritters had to assist around 30 stranded vehicles that became stuck in the snow.

They were also called out to a dramatic rescue up on Porlock Hill after one 4x4 had crashed into a ditch in the icy conditions which left one elderly disabled passenger trapped.

Two crews from Minehead, one from Lynton and a 4x4 from Porlock headed to the scene at 3.27pm.

As the pictures show, crew battled terrible conditions to reach the incident, and on arrival swiftly got to work with cutting equipment, battery saws and tools to remove the back seats and large glass panoramic roof needed to gain access to the casualty.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "Crews needed the assistance of a highway snow plough and salt to enable them to operate in very challenging conditions.

"After releasing the passenger, crews were then required to assist about 30 stranded vehicles by digging out snow."

The heavy rain at lower levels caused some serious flooding issues too with firefighters joining the Watchet Coastguard to help evacuate holiday makers and staff from the Blue Anchor Holiday Park.

Crews worked for a number of hours moving people and caravans out of reach of the water.
