A WHEELCHAIR user who has drawn a blank in his long search for a job has issued a heartfelt plea to be given a chance.

Luc Jones has applied for several jobs over the past three years but has only been called to attend one interview.

He says he is prepared to turn his hand to just about anything in a bid to turn his life around.

Luc, 22, who has mild cerebral palsy, said: "All I'm asking is, 'Please, give me a job'. I'm willing to do anything.

"I'm trying to muddle my way through life, but I don't feel I'm being given a fair chance.

"I keep applying for jobs, but no-one seems to want to know. I've only managed to get one interview and they turned me down.

"I've got more than 60 certificates from my education and training and I'm trained in travel and tourism."

Luc lives with his mother in Bagborough Road, Taunton, and attended Wellsprings Primary School, Ladymead School and later Taunton Academy for a brief period, before studying at the former Somerset College, now Bridgwater and Taunton College.

He added: "I'm a full time wheelchair user and I believe that's what's stopping some people giving me a job.

"I've been through six bouts of clinical depression and suffered other health problems because of everything.

"I've found it difficult to cope with everything and it's been hard to make friends and have a social life.

"The person I'm closest to is my mum. She's really all I've got and is fantastic and supportive.

"At times it does feel as though I'm being discriminated against and have never been given a chance.

"It's strange to think, but joblessness can have a massive affect on several different aspects, such as personal and social life, which is something I really crave."

Luc, who is passionate about music, believes people with a disability should be given the same opportunities, treatment and rights as everyone else.

He said: "I really wish society had a more positive and accepting viewpoint when it comes to people with disabilities.

"Through all I've been through so far, I currently feel like I'm existing but not living and almost constantly have to battle to prove I deserve equal opportunities."
