USERS of the park-and-ride in Taunton have been given an extra three days on their tickets following disruption last week.

Holders of weekly or monthly passes to the service that runs from Silk Mills to Gateway park-and-ride will be able to use their pass for three extra days after a group of travellers caused some closures.

The Gateway site was closed from Monday, April 9, and reopened on Thursday, April 19, while the council worked to have the settlers removed.

The overall bill for the incident has been priced at £7,500 including damage, clean up, and loss of earnings during the closure.

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: "In recognition of the disruption caused by last week’s three-day closure of the Gateway Park and Ride near Taunton, weekly and monthly Park and Ride ticket holders can have their tickets extended by Buses of Somerset for three days.

"Any weekly tickets which expire up to and including 12 April (the last date that an affected weekly ticket could have been purchased was Friday 6 April) can be extended by three Park and Ride working days.

"Any monthly tickets which expire up to and including 5 May (as last date that an affected monthly could have been purchased was Friday 6 April) can be extended by three Park and Ride working days.

"Please speak to your bus driver about putting this into action. Once again we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this but would reiterate that the council responded as quickly as possible within the law."
