A MASSIVE £1,991 was raised for a Taunton-based cancer charity in memory of a young man who died suddenly.

The donation in memory of Luke Beaver, of Minehead, was among money raised for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE), who helps buy equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Musgrove Park Hospital.

Other contributions last week to the County Gazette-backed charity included £20 from the sale of items at Ottery Auction Rooms; and £66 from Donald Reason, of Galmington, from a collection at a wedding anniversary.

Collection pots realised £103.14 at Tesco Express, in East Reach; and £60.37 from Tesco Express, in Comeytowe.

Donations in 5p coins were £30 from Smeatharpe WI; £9 from the Marks family, of Taunton; £3.40 from Connie Morley; and £4.40 from Ruth Read.

Left at the Beacon Centre was £10 from Andy Short; £28.60 in 5ps from Kay Holman of Bridgwater; and from the Beacon Centre £150.35.

The weekly total is £2,476.26, meaning £768,164.81 has been raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette.
