THE Gardner Cup Medal, played at Oake Manor Golf Club on Saturday, April 7, was extremely close, with the first four players all finishing level on nett 66.

On count back, Adam Stoneman was first and won the Gardner Cup, Jack Molden was second, Dave Hollow third and Martin Rivers fourth.

In Division 2, Paul Scribbins came first with nett 67, Patrick Groody was second on nett 72 and Robert Cowburn third with nett 73.

Chris Pratt won the Sunday Stableford Competition scoring 40 points, ahead of Harry Wagstaff in second with 39 points.

Bob Tye came in third with 37 points, and Steve Mankin was fourth with 36 points.

Mike How and Katherine Loader won the Pattemore Cup Mixed Greensomes competition with 42 points, beating Mark Mitchell and Lena Holland on count back.

Ian Loader and Suzanne Reed were third with 39 points and Jim Greenhow and Jane Clist were fourth with 37.

Nearest the pin on 16th hole for the ladies was Sue Corlett, and nearest pin for the men was John Byrne; nearest the pin in two shots on the 18th hole were Charles Hardman and Liz How.

On Monday, the Seniors had a Reverse Waltzing Bowmaker, a very close competition with the top three teams all scoring 77 points.

On count back the winners were Greenways Groupies, made up of Gerald Greenway, John Greenslade and Charles St George.

Amos Aces (Mike Amos, Alan Harman and David Elliot) were second, Rivers Ranchers (Martin Rivers, Keith Woodmason and Gordon Gosney) third, and fourth were Trotts Titans (Bob Trott, Bob Sanders and Andy Browne).

THERE was a three-way tie on 42 points at the end of the Pickeridge Cup, played at Taunton & Pickeridge on Saturday, however, after countback, it was Dave Clarke and Ian James who were the winners.

Second place went to Pete Scarratt and Mike Bird, and third place was claimed by John Irish and Martin Sawyer, while Greg and Martyn Hammond were fourth with 41 points.

On Tuesday, the Ladies’ Section played the first of three qualifiers for the Ladies’ 2018 Pro Am Team.

Competition was close with two players returning with 33 points but, following countback, it was Gill Shire who edged in front to claim first place just ahead of Georgia Richards.

Fiona Snell, with 33 points, was third on countback.

The 9-hole Stableford was won by Susan Gawne-Cain.

The Jack Lane Trophy Mixed Greensomes competition took place on Sunday.

Jack Lane was club professional at T&P from 1905 to 1952; his only break from the club was during service with the Somerset Light Infantry from 1914-18.

After he retired as professional, he served in another capacity for a further three years and thus dedicated 50 years of his life to the club.

Pete and Georgia Richards, with 42 points, were the winners of the Jack Lane Trophy, two clear of their nearest challengers, who had to be separated by countback after two pairs returned with 40.

After countback, second place went to Mike and Heather Crump who edged in front of Rob Darvell and Marion Mittermaier.

The best front nine score was posted by Roger Howard and Jane Ledsham with 21 points, while the best on the back nine was Laurence and Jeanne Leader with 22.

Twos were recorded by Trevor French and Mary-Jo Shepherd; Fred Chidgey and Elaine Payne; Alan and Carol Keenan along with John Wall and Jill Paul.
