THE first Somerset Festival of Nature celebrating the diverse and rich wildlife landscapes of Somerset will offer activities, walks and talks.

The programmes launches on Saturday, May 5, at the National Trust’s Fyne Court, with events running between 10am and 4pm.

The trust’s visitor experience manager, Jenny Weston-Siviter, said there were many ways people could get involved.

“The festival is a great way to get stuck in with nature,”

she said.

“No matter which part of Somerset you are from, there will be something local to you that you can get involved with during May.”

The National Trust will be joined by partners from Somerset Wildlife Trust, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, RSPB, Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown AONB’s, Exmoor National Park Authority, Somerset Rural Life Museum and Cannington College.

They will organise events to show how to protect and enjoy Somerset’s diverse environment.

National Trust project and grants manager Nigel Hester said: “From healthy soils and clean water to abundant wildlife and natural flood management, the nature of Somerset is vital to us all.

“By working together in a strong partnership, we hope the festival will raise awareness of the importance of the natural environment for the county’s future prosperity and people’s health and wellbeing.
