HUNDREDS of people are expected to mill around the narrow village roads at the annual Milverton Street Fair on Bank Holiday Monday (May 7).

The open-air event will have more than 100 stalls, ranging from arts and crafts, paintings and wooden toys to furniture and woodturning, antiques and collectables and bespoke bicycles.

There will also be traditional cream teas, a variety of hot foods and drinks from local ale to foreign juicy smoothies.

Visitors will be entertained by crazy street acts and live music, Punch and Judy shows, face-painting, morris dancers, stilt walkers and more.

The organisers are also organising hat and flag competitions.

Milverton Street Fair, which raises money for local groups, societies and charities, is devised, promoted and organised by The Milverton Trust and is made possible through a dedicated team of volunteers.

A spokesman said: "Much hard work goes into organising and running this wonderful event, year after year, some methods tried and tested, some new and innovative.

"Balance is always the aim - to attract and entertain, yet to generate and gain."

Milverton Archives is staging a heritage exhibition in the church during the fair on The Lost Pubs of Milverton, with old photos and documents.

A cafe will be operating in the Reading Room of the Victoria Rooms and anyone willing to offer donations should contact Christine Field on 01823-400872.
