MINEHEAD Town Council will be seeking a new town clerk after Sue Sanders handed in her resignation.

Sue, who has been Minehead's town clerk for 13 years now, will leave the role in June as she is moving away from the area.

The mayor of Minehead, Cllr Jean Parbrook paid tribute to the outgoing clerk, saying Mrs Sanders had been an 'excellent clerk' who 'will be missed'.

"She has been an excellent town clerk who cares passionately for Minehead and what happens to the town council," Cllr Parbrook said.

"She has been a loyal public servant for many years and will be missed."

Cllr Parbrook said the town council is likely to initially look to a locum to fill in as town clerk temporarily.

"We will hopefully bring someone in to take on the role as a stop-gap measure, and have them in before Sue leaves so that they can learn the ropes," Cllr Parbrook said.

"Minehead Town Council is undergoing a lot of changes in its responsibilities, whether that is running the town toilets or the new community building to be constructed in Irnham Road recreation ground.

"Very soon we will be without an operations officer or a a town clerk and I think it would a good time to assess how we go forward."

Cllr Parbrook said the town clerk role would be advertised once a re-evaluation had taken place, emphasising it was important not to rush these things.
