OUTSTANDING achievements and contributions by Richard Huish College students have been honoured at the annual Sports Awards evening.

More than 120 students, who have represented the College on a regional and national stage across Leagues, Cups and Festivals throughout the year, together with staff, met at Oake Manor Golf Club last week.

The evening started with dinner followed by numerous sports captain speeches and ended with the College’s major sporting awards.

Major awards went to the following students...

Sportswoman of the Year - Olivia Pearson for her contribution within both the Women’s Hockey and Women’s Basketball 1st teams.

Sportsman of the Year - Men’s XV Rugby and Bath Academy player, Jamie Guest.

The Wooden Spoon for the biggest Huish character was won by Louisa Webb.

Louisa made a remarkable impression on staff at the age of 14 when she first joined the Tigers Basketball Programme based at the College and has been an asset to the Women’s Basketball team during her time at Huish.

Captain of the year went to Luca Maxwell for his commitment to Men’s Hockey.

Coach of the Year went to Rugby’s Chris Heal for his work on the Rugby Performance Programme.

His first year returning to coaching has seen participation in the programme increase more than five times over and the team successfully reached the Natwest Plate semi-finals.

ACHIEVEMENT: Jamie Guest, Sportsman of the Year.

The Parsloe Cup (Male) went to Archie Marsh for his outstanding contribution to Hockey and Cricket.

The Parsloe Cup (Female) went to Megan Beale for her support towards the #ThisGirlCan Campaign to get more girls involved in sport and acting as an ambassador for the National campaign for the past two years.

Team of the Year went to Women’s Basketball who have shown tremendous dedication despite the sport having fewer opportunities available to partake in competitive fixtures.

Through commitment to training the team earned their first ever medal at the National Championships this year.

Connor Sidley-Adams, sports development manager, said: “The sports dinner once again proved a fantastic evening to celebrate the successes of our students, in what has been another incredible year.

"It was particularly great to see how appreciative the students were of their coaches for their hard work and the pleasure they took in celebrating the achievements and efforts of their peers."
