A FAMILY travelling on the M5 have been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire involving a car pulling a caravan.
Emergency services were called to the motorway between junction 26 and 27 southbound at around 10.34am this morning (Sunday, May 27).
Two engines from Taunton and one from Wellington attended the scene, alongside the water foam carrier from Bridgwater after multiple calls from the public.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue confirmed the car was on fire on the hard shoulder. Crews began tackling the blaze with breathing apparatus, hose reels and a compressed air foam yet.
The caravan was detached from the vehicle and was not damaged for the fire.
Ambulance crews were called to give first aid to the family who were suffering from smoke inhalation.
Lanes were closed while the incident was dealt with but have now been reopened.
