THOUSANDS of people are expected to descend on Wellington this Sunday for the annual Carnival Street Fair.

One of the town's biggest annual events, this year's extravaganza will include a flypast provided by the RAF, a dinosaur, more than 80 stalls and a host of entertainment and live music.

Dave Rylatt, chairman of the Wellington Carnival Committee, said: "The highlight of the day is sure to be the flypast being provided by the RAF; the flypast will be by the Battle of Britain Memorial flight consisting of a Lancaster Bomber, Spitfire fighter plane, and a Hurricane fighter plane.

"We are so proud to have these planes taking part in our little event."

The flypast is due early afternoon - weather permitting - and organisers will receive an hour's notice, so visitors who don't want to miss it are encouraged to listen out on the PA system

Mr Rylatt added: "We are thankful for Taunton Deane Borough Council for allowing us to close High Street and South Street to facilitate the event."

Impromptu performance areas set up include outside the Green Dragon on South Street, and opposite the Old Post Office and Rule 7 Bar in the High Street.

Entertainment will include Wellington Majorettes, the Blackdown Samba Band, Wellington Bollywood Dancers, Tae Kwan Do displays, with a popular Elvis Presley tribute act returning to close the proceedings with a performance at The Green Dragon scheduled for 3.30pm.

"We are also welcoming back Nigel Phillips with his remarkable dinosaur outfit which took part in Wellington Carnival two years ago.

"Nigel will be walking up and down High Street and South Street between 11am and 2pm and is sure to provide the ideal photo opportunity for children, and he is sure to let children try on the outfit for themselves."

Mr Rylatt also thanked organiser Louise Brierley for her hard work putting the fair together
