A DISUSED and run down area of Wellington could soon be developed if new plans go through.

The area behind Cornhill and next to North Street car park is currently the subject of a pre-planning application from Freemantle Developments is currently putting together the application to submit to Taunton Deane Borough Council.

Previous applications have been submitted for the area but none reached development.

The area is currently overgrown and not viable to the public.

The project is listed on Freemantle Developments' website.

The plans would see the 29,316 sq ft site turned into 40 one, two and three bedroom houses and apartments.

A spokesman said: "This development enjoys a rare location.

"Each home is designed to a high specification and private parking, all within easy walking distance of the town centre.

"This is joint venture with the landowner and is currently in planning."
