FOR the past few years, I’ve moaned daily about the noise and the mess while the new road was being built next to Dunelm (I live opposite).
However, when I discovered what it was going to be called...I took it all back.
The Royal Air Force is 100 years old this year. The founder of the RAF was Lord Trenchard, who was born in Taunton.
The name of the new road - Trenchard Way!
The unveilng was a lovely ceremony. Lord Trenchard’s Grandson, Viscount Trenchard, unveiled it. I introduced myself asked him if he’d pose for a photo wth me and he said he’d be delighted!
Later that evening, I went to The Museum of Taunton for an evening on Lord Trenchard.

Wow, what a character he was. He was affectionately known as “Boom”.
He once said: “I speak two languages; English and LOUD English.”
Apparently, he bellowed, hence the nick-name ‘Boom’.
You’ll sleep better knowing that, won’t you?
I’m still on such a high after the unveiling. A huge day for us.
Our son of Taunton, finally recognised. One happy ex-WRAF here.
