JUNE is set to be a landmark month for Taunton’s Farmers’ Market.

The momentous event will take place on Saturday, June 30.

The reason it is special is this will be the first time in the markets 19 year history it has ever held a Saturday market.

Graeme Wallace who owns and runs Wallace’s Farm which is based at Hill Farm, Hemyock, Cullompton in Devon is Chairman of Taunton’s Farmers’ Market is delighted with this new innovation.

He said: “I am over the moon about this decision.

“The most important thing is to make more people aware there is a farmers’ market.

“We want to open this market up to a new group of customers.

“I would like them to realise this is not just a market but a Farmers’ Market.

“There is a myth buying from stalls at a Farmers’ Market is more expensive than a supermarket but this is not true.

“What you buy from this market is food made by the people who sell it. They use meat which comes from their farms.

“The pies I sell are made using meat from my farm and they are made by me. I have been making sausages for 30 years.

“I was asked to be involved in a taste testing for a wedding.

“One of the people who were there was a film producer form London.

“He tasted one of the chipolatas I make and thought it was the best he had ever tasted.

“It is this type of quality which we want to make people aware of which they can get fro stalls at the Farmers’ Market in Taunton.”

Graeme who is one of the founding fathers of the farmers market hopes this initiative is a success and it could lead to more Farmers’ Markets on Saturdays during the summer and also in the run up to Christmas.

He added: “What I hope is June 30 is a success and it attracts new people to come along to the market.

“I would deem it to be a success if people came along on the Saturday and then came back on the regular Thursday market.”
